Research funding for external providers

The Building Research Levy funds projects from a range of research and knowledge providers, including universities, Crown research institutes, independent research organisations, industry bodies and private providers.

We collaborate with research providers that have significant expertise complementing BRANZ-based specialist teams.

Research priorities are signalled in BRANZ’s Investment Priority Statement, which is released each year in May. The latest is here: Investment Priority Statement.

External research proposals are assessed through a two-stage process.

  • Expression of Interest (EOI) stage – applicants outline their research concept and approach.
  • Full proposal stage – successful EOI applicants are invited to submit a more detailed full proposal.
